SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- September 1, 1999 -- LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC brings a bold chapter in the Star Wars saga to PlayStation for the first time beginning September 15 with the release of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. Based upon the dramatic narrative of the epic motion picture, The Phantom Menace places the fate of the Star Wars galaxy in the hands of gameplayers and challenges them to use the Force -- and their wits -- to overcome perils at every turn.
Exclusive to the PlayStation version of The Phantom Menace is the dramatic Star Wars "Duel of the Fates" music video, which debuted on MTV last May.
"Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace delivers an incredibly immersive experience through which gameplayers can relive all the drama and exhilaration of the motion picture," says Joel Dreskin, product marketing manager for LucasArts. "From the game's formidable puzzles to its thrilling action sequences, players will be able to participate in the entire captivating story from its mysterious beginning to unforgettable conclusion"
Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace immerses players in the roles of the motion picture's principle characters, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Queen Amidala and Captain Panaka. As in the theatrical release, the game unfolds with the Galactic Republic engulfed in turmoil. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are dispatched to the planet of Naboo, in an attempt to negotiate a settlement to a threatened blockade of trade routes by the nefarious Trade Federation. Upon their arrival, the two Jedi Knights quickly learn that a trap has been set and their fates are in jeopardy, setting the stage for the ultimate struggle to save the Galactic Republic from a powerful and menacing evil.
Throughout The Phantom Menace, players encounter dozens of challenging puzzles suitable for novice and veteran action/adventurers as they search for clues to defeat the Trade Federation and their evil plot. They'll interact with hundreds of characters and come face-to-face with an onslaught of enemies, including battle droids, destroyer droids, mercenaries and the evil Darth Maul. Players will defend themselves with an assortment of familiar Star Wars: Episode I weaponry, ranging from lightsabers, flash grenades, Naboo blasters and Force Push powers.
The Phantom Menace takes players through exotic and amazing realms, from the denizen-filled streets of Mos Espa on the desert planet of Tatooine, the gleaming galactic capital world of Coruscant, Naboo's lush, green world, and beyond.
Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace was developed in conjunction with Novato, California-based Big Ape Productions.
